  1. Elisabeth Grace Foley that s Elisabeth spelled with an S, mind you has been an insatiable reader and eager history buff ever since she learned to read, and has been scribbling stories ever since she learned to write She now combines those interests in writing historical fiction Her short Western novel Left Hand Kelly was a nominee for the 2015 Peacemaker Award for Best Independently Published Western Novel She is also the author of the historical mystery series The Mrs Meade Mysteries a series of fairytale retelling novellas set in different historical eras and a variety of short fiction Her work has appeared online at Rope and Wire and The Western Online When not reading or writing, she enjoys music, crocheting, spending time outdoors, and watching sports and classic film She lives in upstate New York with her family and the world s best German Shepherd.

  2. Elisabeth Foley caught my attention with this book Wanderlust Creek is a collection of 6 stories, which were published earlier this year I don t usually enjoy many modern western novels or films But I found this book to be quite different than the usual modern day fare. One reason I enjoyed this book was because it had an old timey feel to it Many modern books amount to no than twaddle typically introspective twaddle that is devoid of any real meaning and concentrates on feelings and emotions ra [...]

  3. Character driven westerns with a charm of the old fashioned something usually only found in books from the period is Elisabeth Grace Foley s speciality and she has served that special up yet again with Wanderlust Creek and Other Stories I had been looking forward to another collection of western short stories ever since I read her first collection, falling even in love with the author s writing when I read her Mrs Meade Mysteries, Left Handed Kelly, and Corral Nocturne Needless to say, I was de [...]

  4. Age Appropriate For All AgesBest for Ages 12 and up for mild violence and very mild romanceIf you like old western movies, Foley is a great writer for you Her style is very close to those old black and white movies that so many of us love Her stories are devoid of blush worthy content and are a pleasure to read If there is one downside I would say it is the use of euphemisms Most of the time it didn t bother me except in one story sorry, I don t remember which one where it was a bit excessive.Th [...]

  5. Quiet, character driven, and mature, the short stories in this collection were a pleasant and satisfying read Foley s writing style is reminiscent of O Henry, but less sentimental As far as criticisms, generally I thought the plots could be denser, revolving strongly around a central theme Some of them felt a little thin and rambling to me However, with its beautifully evoked settings, deftly drawn characters, and poignant mood, Wanderlust Creek was a sweet and enjoyable read.

  6. Great fun Very entertaining western short stories Lots of guns, gunmen and the odd mystery thrown in My favourites were The Rush at Mattie Arnold s, A Search for Truth and Room Service.

  7. I read most of this novella on a Sunday afternoon The general happiness and subtle sweetness of the stories hooked me in one after another and I couldn t put them down In fact, this novella made me think of our favorite western book, Letters of a Woman Homesteader, by Elinore Pruitt Stewart.Single Handed and A Search for Truth were good, all around gunslinger cowboy stories The Rush at Mattie Arnold s made me laugh, especially every time Etta pinned her braids up The Mustanger s Bride and Room S [...]

  8. I d never read any of Elisabeth Grace Foley s work before this collection of six stories I was quite impressed with what she s done with the tropes of the genre. There s a gunfight, threats of a range war, cattle rustling, family misunderstandings, stage hold ups Yet within those restrictions, she s given us well drawn characters doing things just slightly different from what one would suspect I m certainly going to check out some of her longer work.Highly recommended.

  9. Like Foley s earlier collection, The Ranch Next Door and Other Stories, this is a mix of several short stories and a novella My favorite was the novella, Wanderlust Creek, and I also liked Single Handed and The Rush at Mattie Arnold s especially well.Once again, Elizabeth Grace Foley has created some clean, enjoyable, highly readable western fun I initially bought this as an e book, but then liked it so well I went ahead and bought the paperback too.
